By Malene Birger x Støt Brysterne

    By Malene Birger Darlings
The fight against breast cancer is an issue for all women and the By Malene Birger team stands beside all the strong, powerful women dealing with breast cancer #keepbelieving.

This September, By Malene Birger has collaborated with breast cancer charity Støt Brysterne to create a T-shirt in support of women fighting the disease. All profits from the sale of each T-shirt will be donated to the charity, underlining By Malene Birger’s passionate support for the cause. With a largely female team, this issue is inevitably close to the hearts of many By Malene Birger employees and is one which has affected countless of our friends and families. The aim of the collaboration is to support both breast cancer sufferers and their relatives by helping to fund the magnificent outreach work co-ordinated by Støt Brysterne.

The key message promoted by the T-shirt is that both as individuals and as a community we must #keepbelieving and collectively do everything we can to support women going through breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Dealing with the illness is a long and often drawn-out process with endless challenges to women’s everyday life, families and sense of confidence. But if we stand together and do what we can to bring breast cancer into focus, we can foster hope amongst afflicted families.

To further spread the word, By Malene Birger has enlisted the support of some of the brand’s most loyal ambassadors to help promote the campaign. Each of these 18 Danish influencers will act as the faces of this campaign, sharing the #keepbelieving message of hope to their individual audiences and posting an image of themselves wearing the T-shirt on social media this 1st September to kick start the campaign.

“There is no question that women are more powerful when they stand together,” explains Rina Hansen, Marketing & Omnichannel Director. “By Malene Birger believes that the collective efforts of our team, our amazing customers, our community of inspiring Danish influencers and of course the incredible work of Støt Brysterne, offers an expression of how Danes are working together to help fight breast cancer. We have no choice but to draw the subject into focus, simply because it affects too many of us to ignore. We hope to inspire a sense of togetherness in this fight. Cancer sufferers and their families are not in it alone. The message is crystal clear: #keepbelieving.”
    - Rina Hansen, Marketing & Omnichannel Director

To share the message, both customers and influencer are encouraged to share an image of their T-shirt on social media using #keepbelieving #BMBxStøtBrysterne.

By Malene Birger x Støt Brysterne

T-shirt, 249 DKK with 124 DKK donation to Støt Brysterne.
Available from 1st September at bymalenebirger.com, all Danish BMB retail stores and Støt Brysterne’s online sales channels.

The Spring Summer 2017 By Malene Birger show

By Malene Birger Spring Summer 2017 Show

“I’ve been travelling a lot to Los Angeles, and in the studio I’ve pinned up a photo of Faye Dunaway the morning after winning an Oscar, lounging by the pool of the Beverly Hills in a silk nightgown. I wanted that old school Hollywood glamour, but in a totally modern way. The collection is also inspired by LA style now – luxurious, but personal and relaxed. It’s about the freedom and independence to wear what feels right for you.”

Christina Exsteen, Creative Director, By Malene Birger

Welcome to the sunshine-infused world of Spring/Summer 2017 at By Malene Birger. The new season collection is presented at the Lokomotivværkstedet, an architecturally stunning former train workshop in the heart of Copenhagen. The venue is transformed into a beautiful dream evoking Old Hollywood, with a set design in peachy pink evoking the signature colour of the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel – affectionately known as “The Pink Palace”.

Italian model Greta Varlese opens the show, joined by Caroline Brasch Nielsen, Regitze Christensen, Sofie Hemmet, Line Brems, Carolin S, Dasha, Melodie, Mathilde Brandi and more.

Guests at the show include Oh Land, Medina, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen and Coco, joined by international digital influencers Evangelie Smyrniotaki, Blanca Miro, Shini Park, Pernille Teisbæk, Tiany Kiriloff, Linda Toll, Emily Weiss and Veronika Heilbrunner.

To celebrate the collection’s Los Angeles inspiration, the bestselling Hilma bag will be available in pink shearling as a limited edition. A bucket bag with cool-girl style, the limited edition Hilma is being made available direct from the runway – online and in the By Malene Birger flagship store at Antonigade, Copenhagen.

By Malene Birger unveils the first collection of bags by Creative Director Christina Exsteen

By Malene Birger unveils the first collection of bags by Creative Director Christina Exsteen

“I wanted to design a collection of bags for myself and my girlfriends. We all work and have busy lives. I’ve got small children, so my day starts with the school run before rushing to the office and meetings, and I often have a function or event in the evening. I need a bag that is beautiful and works for all these parts of my life. And I wanted the quality to be the best – because finding the perfect bag can take years. Once you find it, it’s a relationship that lasts.”
Christina Exsteen, Creative Director, By Malene Birger

By Malene Birger is proud to launch a collection of bags designed by Creative Director Christina Exsteen. The collection started with Christina’s quest for a perfect bag – a bag that is desirable, adds polish to your look and holds everyday essentials.

The bag collection is inspired by vintage bags with a strong focus on beautiful details and bold construction designed to last. The bags are all made in high quality calf leather or suede and sourced from trusted European suppliers. All hardware is plated zinc and manufactured by in-house specialists. The bags hold no – or only a discreet – logo, emphasising that recognisable details and hardware are the signature elements of the bag collection.

The collection is priced between €245 and €745 and stocked exclusively in By Malene Birger stores in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Malmø, Stockholm, London and Paris, and online. Available from 3rd February, 2016.

By Malene Birger launches new logo

by malene birger launches new logo

It takes boldness to change an established brand’s logo. And in Scandinavian fashion, few brands are more established than By Malene Birger. So when it was announced in 2014 that newly appointed Creative Director Christina Exsteen was to alter not only the graphic language, but also the actual logo of the house, it was done with great caution.

“Concentrating on the fundamentals, the visual language of By Malene Birger, is of huge importance to us. Therefore, we started back then what is today completed – a full overhaul of our brand identity,” Creative Director Christina Exsteen explains.

The new logo gives a reverent nod to the beginnings of the company, adopting yet evolving the original serif typeface Sabon into a single line with higher contrast in lettering. It remains true to the spirit of the origins of By Malene Birger, but marks a new era. The new stripped-back identity will sit perfectly with the charm of the monogram.

The idea behind the new logo was to keep the original name and typeface, but to modernise it. It needed to have a more flexible visual language. It also needed to work both in retail and digitally

The new logo and visual identity launches on July 1st, 2015.

By Malene Birger Launches a New Store Concept

by malene birger launches a new store concept

“We were aiming to create a store concept that was elegant and reassuring. Modern and yet with a slightly nostalgic bent. We found that in our collaboration with Dimore Studio. There’s a unique elegance to their work. You see that in their renovation of the Grand Hotel et de Milan. Their background, with a strong focus on hotel interiors and private residences, echoed perfectly with our DNA and our ambitions for the future.”

    – Christina Exsteen, Creative Director

Last night, By Malene Birger revealed its new store concept designed by Dimore Studio, the award-winning Italian interior-design firm renowned for creating eclectically chic and personal contemporary interiors.

Britt Moran and Emiliano Salci, the duo behind Dimore Studio, usually work on luxury hotel interiors, restaurants and homes. The collaboration with By Malene Birger is their fashion industry debut.

The inspiration for the 280 square metre Antonigade store in Copenhagen originated with the idea of an all-female world, an environment softened by circular shapes, curved lines, cocooning lights, warm hues and leather. The result is a distinctive new look but one that pays respect to the brand’s heritage and signature interior style.

The Copenhagen store is the first to undergo a complete renovation and an international roll-out is underway, continuing with the store on Marylebone High Street in London. The goal is that, from the moment a woman steps foot into a By Malene Birger store, to envelop her in a universe of luxury.

BY MALENE BIRGER NEW STORE CONCEPT

By Malene Birger announces its collaboration with Dimore Studio, the award-winning Italian design-house who has been appointed to revamp the new boutique concept for the Danish contemporary brand.

In Spring 2015 By Malene Birger will celebrate the opening of the newly designed flagship store situated in Copenhagen. In collaboration with Milan-based Dimore Studio founded by Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran, the 280 m2 boutique will go-through a complete revamp in line with the new company strategy.

“With an impeccable aesthetic eye and an extreme focus on details, Dimore Studio turned out to be the perfect match for By Malene Birger. The new concept is going to be remarkably different thus still very much in line with the brand’s heritage. Our customers are constantly developing, so must By Malene Birger and we are thrilled to take this journey with Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran,”, says By Malene Birger’s Chief Executive Officer Charlotte Egelund.

    The Concept

The Copenhagen boutique will be the first store to undergo a complete renovation followed by the stand-alone stores in Paris and London. A classic take with modern feel, a focus on custom-built and handcrafted elements, walls featuring the brand´s signature elements and chandelier in the emblematic monochrome colors of the fashion house.

“The inspiration for the new By Malene Birger store came from the idea of an all-female world” according to Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran – “especialle in terms of shape and colors. An environment softened with circular shapes, curved lines, enveloping lights and warm colors enchaced by the use of leather” add the designers of DIMORE STUDIO – “that makes the selection and the fitting of the product enjoyable.”

The founder of By Malene Birger is stepping down and handing over the creative keys

malene birger steps down and handling over the creative keys of by malene birger

Friday January 10th., Malene Birger announces that she is stepping down as lead creator of By Malene Birger A/S.

The focus for the next few months will be on continuing to mentor the design and creative teams at the fashion house. Malene Birger will then move on and dedicate her time to creative projects in her new company BIRGER1962.

Malene Birger founded the international designer brand in 2003, with IC Companys A/S as her investors. In 2010, she decided to sell her stake back to IC Companys. Since then Mrs. Birger, the Design team and Management of By Malene Birger have kept their focus on developing the brand's identity and aesthetic universe.

The sale set in motion a long-term strategy that reaches its conclusion with Malene Birger’s departure.

The vision, beliefs and values communicated when the company was founded in 2003 will continue to live and be expressed by By Malene Birger´s creative teams. Their ongoing work will be to evolve the distinctive design and signature style of the brand.

“I will be handing over 'the creative keys' to my Design Manager, Christina Exsteen and the design team. Christina has worked closely with me since I founded the company and for the last three years we have been on a journey to prepare for this day. I know that I will be leaving a well-established and healthy brand with its own strong identity. And I am looking forward to future creative projects, with both By Malene Birger and Christina. Together we have worked hard on a strategy for By Malene Birger A/S, and I feel confident that the company will continue to have success and international respect,” says the founder, Malene Birger.

The design team will be mentored by Malene Birger, in order to tell the stories and lay the ground for each collection, until the Spring/Summer 2015 season. Subsequently, both parties will have the freedom and possibility to take the co-operation between Birger1962 and By Malene Birger A/S to new creative heights.

“My main focus and ambition for the brand is to develop and enable By Malene Birger A/S to fully embrace its potential - an evolution with roots in, and respect for the original DNA and Universe. I see this development as a natural step in strengthening the brand and international growth. We are glad to say that recent results reinforce that we now have the right team to move forward; the new constellation opens up for new exciting possibilities,” says CEO, Charlotte Egelund.
